I have not been using any connection documents. I have been routing all outbound mail to a Mimesweeper server via the Relay Host setting in the Messaging config document(the domino server and mimesweeper server are both on private addresses) which then routes the mail out to the internet thru a firewall.
I only changed IP addresses on the server NIC and the IP address of the relay host setting.
